Fray Bentos - African Dust

Fray Bentos. The man, the pie, the legend.
Not content with filling the bellies of students across the land with his ergonomically packaged and mighty reasonable line of meat pies, Fray Bentos also peddles an impressively popular range of happy-go-lucky Disco Edits that regularly hit the top of the sales charts at your favourite online stores.

A man of many talents, and a man with an ear for an original tune to boot. His first release for Particle Zoo is a foray into both the sunshine continent, and original songwriting. Backed up by his signature crisply immaculate production style, 'African Dust' is a 3-track incursion into African influenced Disco music with enough Disco to keep the heads happy and enough Afro to get those feet dancing in polyrhythm. Lead track 'African Dust' is handed over to label boss Don Dayglow and a true VIP of UK music, Simon Mills. As one half of legendary act Bent, his pedigree is undisputed, and here his remix of 'African Dust' provides a stunningly mesmeric tribal floor-filler. Meanwhile, Don Dayglow takes things a little darker with a synth-workout on a thumping House affair.

Review: The clue's in the title with this one, as Particle Zoo serve up an EP dripping in African flavas. The title track, in its Original form, is a rolling Afro-disco groove with chanted vox and all manner of delicate percussion. Simon Mills declutters the top end and beefs up the kicks a little, but the obvious choice for club play would be the stripped-back and (deep) house-ified Don Dayglow Remix. Two more originals complete the EP: 'Algeria To Zimbabwe' sounds like Talking Heads trying their hand at African jazz while 'Secrets Of Wakanda' scatters a little magic disco dust.
